Why We Do What We Do

What we are

We are a Disabled Veteran founded non-profit, where we rescue shelter dogs to use and teach Veterans to train their own service dogs. We find that this method builds a better bond between the veteran and the dog, the Veteran knows everything the dog is capable of doing and the training helps the Veteran with a brain injury remember as much as the dog does. It give the Veteran a sense of accomplishment, and pride in knowing they are able to still continue being useful. With this, we expand because the Veterans that have graduated want to pay it forward by training the next Veteran that needs a hand up.

A Word From Mary Beth

Dear Phil,

I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with Zeke, he is such a blessing in not only my life, but in just a few short days, he has touched the lives of so many people he comes into contact with.  I could not ask for more in such a wonderful dog.
I bit of a background on me is that I am now an Army Veteran after serving 29  years. I retired medically due to complicating conditions, one I served with for 26 of those years, and then sustained a TBI that caused multiple vestibular issues to include vision, over 3 years ago.

Just a peom you should read

Why do you turn away
You act like I’m not here
You never invite me to stay
What is it that you fear

Why must you talk behind my back
The spreading rumors is what you do
You don’t give me any slack
You think that is what I really am to you

You see the story of violence and pain
Written in the lines on my face
You think I am crazy, mean, and insane
Because I don’t smile, I don’t belong at your place

You don’t know what to ask or what to say
Because I went to war a friendly man
Now that I am back, I’m not the same

Update on our Program

We are doing more across Louisiana than just providing Service Dogs and Training to Veterans and Family Members for Free, we are Educating the businesses about their rights as well as the rights of the Handler and Service Dogs. We are Educating children on Animal Abuse, and general Dog Safety. We have combined with Dog Gone Express and have been getting dogs trained in Basic Obedience by prisoners on many prisons throughout Louisiana. We have actively been working with speaking at many functions for Incarcerated Veterans at many different prisons and will be helping some transition back into the public with the help of a Service Dog.

First Annual Ft. Polk Community Poker Run

On Saturday, April 26th, 2014 Brothers and Sisters In Arms was the recipient of the First Annual Ft. Polk Benifit Community Poker Run. This event was hosted and Sponsored by Daiquiri Station (owner Kevin Johnson), in our very own Leesville, Louisiana. The support from our Local community was amazing. The riders and bike clubs that came out was humbling. We had donators and sponsor show outstanding support. We had a live and silent auction, 50/50 raffle, amazing BBQ plates followed by an amazing concert by Framing the Red.
